The outside of your home is what protects you from the elements of mother nature. Your siding, your roof, your gutters, and your windows are just a few examples of structures that are essential to your home’s function. Vinyl siding lasts for about 40 years when it is properly maintained. That being said, how long does a roof last?

According to US News, a roof should last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, depending on the material. This, unfortunately, means that you will probably need to replace a roof at some point in your time as a homeowner. Many homeowners will try to do this enormous job themselves, and that is not the best idea. Here are three reasons that roof repair and installation should be left to the professionals.

DIY Doesn’t Always Mean Money Is Saved
For starters, professional roofers know what they are looking for in terms of roof damage. They will be able to pinpoint exactly what work needs to be done. The average homeowner does not necessarily have this knowledge and therefore may fix more than what needs fixing. The other thing is that professionals can get roofing materials at wholesale prices and the average homeowner cannot. So if you’re trying to buy roofing materials yourself, you might end up spending more in the long run.

You Void the Warranty
When you get your rood replaced or repaired by a professional roofing company, it often times comes with a warranty. This means that the work is guaranteed for a certain amount of time, and it must be fixed for free if it does not last. This is not available when you replace the roof yourself. If you miss-install the roofing materials, there is no free fix.

It’s Dangerous
If for no other reason, you should not try to fix your roof yourself because you can get seriously hurt. Heights, steep slopes, specific tools, and unpredictable weather conditions are all factors that professional roofers are trained to deal with that you probably are not.

They are called professionals for a reason. Save yourself time, money, damages, and injury by leaving your roof repair to the pros, and don’t try to do it yourself.
